Strawberries...our new favorite Easter egg

What could be better than tromping through fields of ripe strawberries looking for those perfect juicy red treats? My big girl exclaimed, "finding strawberries is like finding Easter eggs!"  She couldn't have said it better.  We were all gitty with excitement as we searched for over 2 hours under the lush green leaves and white blossoms of the strawberry fields.  It was like a fabulous and never-ending egg hunt for the entire family...except for the little one who seemed to enjoy our excitement from the comfort of her little shaded stroller.  If you have never been, I highly suggest finding a field near you.  Many places even have some animals to feed and pet.  What a perfect way to spend a mild spring morning.

Bluebonnets...

In our area, springtime bring the most beautiful bluebonnets.  They have lush green stems and leafs topped with a long cone shaped blue flower.  The roadsides and fields are covered with bright green and blue.  It is a lovely sight to expect each spring! I've drug these two out a number of times this week to get some decent pictures.  They will probably cry if they see the camera again.

Oh, dear...

Oh, dear.  Momma's in love.
Sweet babe, you are just perfect.
I am mad about your wild ways and curious nature.
And those eyes...
No one knows where they came from,
but they are the sweetest little blessing.

That necklace...

The teething necklace arrived and it is wonderful.  My little babe loves gnawing on it while we are out and about.  It is nice to not have to drag a ton of teething toys around.  The only downside we have experienced is the inevitable drool that falls from the necklace onto my shirt.  I guess that beats the ol' shoulder gnaw which leaves my shoulders wet with drool and other wonderful substances.  So, for a mere $30, I think it is worth it.  Plus they have a few different color choices.  Fun, fun!

I know, I know, it seems a bit strange to be so excited about a piece of jewelry that my child can chew on.  All part of being a mother, I guess!
By the way, this was the article that inspired my purchase!

Oilcloth Mat

I've always loved oilcloth.  It is durable, bright, vibrant and stylish all wrapped up in a nifty little fabric.  I recently visited a fabulous little fabric store that had some wonderful oilcloth prints.  I had my big girl with me and we picked out some that captivated our curious eyes.  We bought a large square (48x48) and I hope to turn it into a "splat mat" of sorts.  Those of you who know me well, know I am a bit of a neat freak--partly by way of my big boy who will eat and destroy anything left on the floor.  So, I intend to make a large mat to lay on the floor, table, carpet, etc. out of this oilcloth.  I think it will be the perfect spot for some creative activities indoors. Hopefully, it will relax my "oh, dear my child is going to ruin that" fears.  Perhaps we will now enjoy PlayDoh, markers and maybe, just maybe, glitter and glue projects indoors.  We'll see....

I am going to try to find a way to finish the edges and possibly line the back with some sort of light weight cotton fabric.  It is definitely fine to use as-is right now but I think some finishing touches will make it beautiful and functional--just what I love!  I shall report back on our trails with the oilcloth craft mat!

Have you ever finished a piece of oilcloth?  Anyone have any ideas on ways to spruce it up a bit?

Oh, wait, the best part...the 48x48 square was only 12 dollars!

Simple Swing

Is there anything better than a simple swing?

The wind beneath you,
The weightless feeling as you sway back and forth,
The steady and constant motion,
The breeze tossing your hair,
The view from up high,
A friend swaying beside you,
Flying like the birds,
The simplicity of some rope, a tree and a platform.

We are enjoying our backyard swing immensely...well, any swing these days.
Here's to swinging into SPRING and SUMMER amongst the budding oak trees and their falling leaves!

Happy Spring!
